1. Annual Gynecology & Preventive Care
Do I need to see a gynecologist every year if nothing is wrong?
You do not have to wait for a problem to see a gynecologist. At Galleria Women’s Health, Dr. Deepali Kashyap uses preventive visits to review your current health, menstrual or reproductive concerns, cervical and breast screening history, contraception, sexual health and changes that may come with age, perimenopause or menopause, with testing recommended according to your individual needs rather than automatically performing the same tests every year.
Do I need a Pap smear every year?
Not necessarily. Whether cervical screening is due depends on your age, previous Pap or HPV results, screening history and individual risk factors. Dr. Deepali reviews that history first so a Pap or HPV test is performed when appropriate rather than simply because you scheduled an annual visit.
Is a Pap smear the same as a pelvic exam?
No. A Pap test collects cells from the cervix for cervical cancer screening, while a pelvic examination evaluates pelvic and reproductive structures. You may need one, both or neither at a particular appointment depending on your age, symptoms and reason for visiting.
Can I go to the gynecologist while I’m on my period?
Usually, yes. A menstrual period does not automatically mean you need to cancel your appointment, although very heavy bleeding or certain planned cervical tests or procedures can affect what can be done, so you can contact Galleria Women’s Health before the visit if you are unsure.
